    Grabbed a tallboy of AB few years back and enjoyed the hell out of it, not sure why I don’t pull the trigger on it more but probably because I don’t find it too often or too fresh. As for the double, neva had it but I’d love to try this one. Happy Amurica dude!

    Hey glad you liked it overall! I think I liked this one a bit more than you did but we aren’t going to have perfect alignment on everything. Haha. I’m glad you remarked on the drinkability of this because I also felt like it had such a lack of alcohol astringency for the ABV. Unless I missed it I think you’ve still got the OEC Maibock that Stephen sent. I liked this Weldwerks version quite a bit but from my memory I enjoyed the OEC better, but I’ve only had it once like 2 years ago. Just not a style you see a lot of. I think on the box as a whole I expected you to enjoy the Murder Ballads the best which seemed to be true. The Side Pull was also about as expected and glad I was able to get you a can of that one. I had my last can of Side Pull last weekend and while it was still very good it lost a bit of its floral punch from the hops which kind of makes sense after like 4 months or whatever it’s been since they canned it. It felt like the Hoof Hearted beer was the big shock for both of us, enough that I went out of my way to get a can for myself and glad I did. It was delicious. By the way, that Everybody Wants Some Sabro I had another can and while still good, it didn’t have that massive coconut punch from when I had it super fresh unfortunately.

    • @averagejoe716
      @averagejoe716 13 годин тому

      Yeah, you liked it a bit more than me, but we both enjoyed it. Definitely can't align perfectly on everything, like you said! The drinkability was ridiculous for a 7.2% ABV Maibock, IMO. Not even remotely noticeable. You could take down a four pack with ease and then pay for it later, haha! That OEC beer I'm reviewing tonight, actually, and posting it next weekend. I'm curious to see how it compares to this one. I think your assessment is correct. The Murder Ballads and Hoof Hearted beers were my favorite. Also liked the DankHouse beer a ton, as well. Side Pull was tasty, but I could see how it'd fall off after that many months. I loved trying everything you sent, so I thank you for all of the beer. It's always a blast trying new breweries and some local favorites. Thoroughly enjoyed it all! Cheers, Curtis!

    Hey bud.. I'm gonna be in the New York area from July 24th to the 29th and was hoping to grab some to-go beer at Troon (I'll be going to Fiden's on a separate day of the trip and a few breweries within New York). Question: On which day(s) do they sell to-go cans and what time of day should I get there? I messaged them directly but wanted your thoughts/suggestions. Cheers!

    • @averagejoe716
      @averagejoe716 13 годин тому

      I've never been to Troon, and the only thing I've heard about their sales is that it's very random and sudden. They just post on IG that they have beer available and that's it. I think they sometimes mention if they're going to release something the day, and then post a link to pre-order it. Outside of that, it's a guessing game. Maybe folks who go there all the time have a better idea, though. Cheers, Byrne!

    I'd pay 3.75 a can for a Maibock if I regularly bought singles since its not a style I can easily get. Thats cheap compared to these 6 and 7 dollar cans of more popular, more experimental styles. Even if the Maibock isnt top shelf its still a good deal. Doesnt seem like its a hard style to mess up and not get right.

    • @averagejoe716
      @averagejoe716 13 годин тому

      Yeah, I think the $12-14/four pack range for the style is appropriate. I wouldn't want to pay much more than that as I can get authentic German Maibocks for similar prices. This was well-made and enjoyable, though. Cheers, Chaz!

    • @averagejoe716
      @averagejoe716 День тому

      Yeah, the price point is high, but that is the norm for styles like this. Especially if you're grabbing a single, they're usually $7-8/can. There are definitely some breweries in California that produce these style of beers. Kings Brewing Company in Rancho Cucamonga has their Fros'e series. Pure Project out of San Diego does quite a few of 'em, as well. Moksa in Rocklin has done a few this year also. As for breweries that brew the style that might get distro in CA, 450 North is a pretty popular one. Drekker, as well. Mortalis might get some beers out there, although they'd probably be expensive. Hope this helps! Cheers!

    4/5....I was going to go 3.5/5. But after seeing Steven's comment, saying "Canadian Whisky is Rye Whisky", it looks like i am going to have to bump it up, to a 4/5. So, maybe if you dont taste maple, dont call it out, just because you get a perceived sweetness. You were semi close on the ABV, and you got the Barrel aged. Another nice job....Cheers man.

    • @averagejoe716
      @averagejoe716 3 дні тому

      I think a 4/5 is fair. Honestly, you could've given me 10 guesses, and I still wouldn't have said Imperial Brown Ale. Too much age on this one, plus the barrel aging, to ever think about that style specifically. I was happy that Stephen clarified that Canadian whiskey is usually rye whiskey, as that's what I thought, but I didn't say it in the review because I don't know a ton about spirits, so I leave that to those folks who know what they're talking about. Funny thing is if you go to their website or Untappd, they specify that it's Canadian RYE whiskey, so I guess I can give myself some brownie points for being right on the barrel. No maple, so the sweetness was just coming from the malt. I'm OK with how I did. 4/5 = B or B+, so I'll take it! Thanks, dude! Cheers!

      Thanks, Stephen! Honestly, I was thinking to myself that Canadian whiskey = rye whiskey, but since I really don't delve into that world much at all, I didn't want to act like I knew that. I was confident that Canadian whiskey was mostly rye, but not 100%, so I appreciate the confirmation. This was a fun one, and while I swung and missed on the exact beer, at least I got the brewery correct, haha! Thanks again for all the beers, but especially the Whodunits. They're always fun! WTF? A nitro ESB?? I like ESBs and do not see them regularly. I wish more breweries would make ESBs. I don't think I have ever seen a Nitro ESB. $5 a can for an ESB is kind of expensive, but inflation is a bitch. Sounds like a decent beer. I would like to try this one. I have not had very many cask beers. However, well before Untappd I had the opportunity to try a cask beer at Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem in Nottingham. It was amazing! I wish I knew what the beer actually was.

    • @averagejoe716

      Yeah, it's definitely not normal seeing nitro beers in the US of beer styles like this, but it makes sense because they're trying to mimic the cask mouthfeel. I don't think it quite nails it, but it's not that far off. Fun beer to try, though. I also wish we saw more ESBs (and other English styles, in general). Cheers, dude!

    We get this one in my area but we dont get Turbo Dog or the Amber. I just went to a large liquor store the other day and they had the Purple Haze and Strawberry Lager but nothing else from them. So their distribution is very spotty. Some of their seasonals show up and some dont in my area. Its a total crapshoot. I like their Mardi Gras Bock (spring seasonal) and it showed up here for 2-3 years in a row but this year it didnt show up. So yeah you would think that every store that sells the Purple Haze would also sell the Turbo Dog, well nope thats not how distribution works because thats not the case I can tell you. So basically I can drive 2 miles and find Purple Haze but if I want Turbo Dog I have to drive 20 miles. Its just dumb and makes no sense. Theres no logical reason why stores that sell Purple Haze also dont have Turbo Dog but around here they dont.

      Same here with Wegmans. The unfortunate thing about the mixed six area at grocery stores is that you're limited to whatever is in the area. Most of the Wegmans have a pretty solid selection, but the vast majority of their beer I've already reviewed. Plus, they tend to have much older bottles/cans. I do occasionally buy a mix six pack from them, but only if there's at least three beers that I know I'll use for the month. I might have to check more Wegmans stores going forward, though. Cheers!

    • @averagejoe716

      It depends, Chaz. Wegmans = $12.99/6 pack, and it depends on the beer. Most places I go to, if it's a 12 fl. oz can, I can get it for under $2/can, so it's better value than Wegmans. However, Wegmans sometimes have beers that other stores won't break up for singles. It all depends. I'm going to try to keep everything going, but if it gets to a point where I can't, then I'm going to need to figure out something for shelfie beer reviews. I love doing 'em, so I want to keep 'em going!
